{"id":545,"date":"2014-08-12T18:21:06","date_gmt":"2014-08-12T18:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.imperialcrs.com\/blog\/?p=545"},"modified":"2022-02-16T19:16:35","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T19:16:35","slug":"see-get","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imperialcrs.com\/blog\/business-insights\/see-get\/","title":{"rendered":"See Do Get"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A simple strategy for effective organizational leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Stephen Covey\u2019s book <em>First Things First<\/em> the author asserts that, \u201cIf we want to create significant change in the results, we can\u2019t just change attitudes and behaviors, methods or techniques; we have to change the basic paradigms out of which they grow.\u201d\u00a0 Wow, that idea is a mouthful!\u00a0 In 1994 after having read Covey&#8217;s landmark book, <em>The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People<\/em>, I had the opportunity to attend a seminar given by the author on his new book, <em>First Things First.<\/em>\u00a0 I think it fair to say most of us who signed up for that day thought we were attending a time management exercise \u2026 we were wrong.\u00a0 Among Covey\u2019s ideas is that how we <em>SEE<\/em> the world or situations around us determines what we <em>DO<\/em>, and what we do determines what we <em>GET<\/em>, or the outcome.\u00a0 It\u2019s deceptively simple concept and one that I\u2019ve re-learned many times in my career, as an employee, peer and as a leader within an organization.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of my perspective within a company, whether from my position as an employee, as a leader, or even as a peer within a leadership structure, how I view what\u2019s going on influences what I do.\u00a0 We all have biases and life experiences that color how we see the world, events, and others around us.\u00a0 Recognizing that fact is the first step in realizing that what I\u2019m getting from the world, an activity, or how someone is interacting with me is influencing the outcome, good or bad.\u00a0 I can only hope to influence the world, activity or person. How I see the situation, circumstance or the other person\u2019s point of view has to be the first thing I address.\u00a0 When I change how I <em>SEE<\/em> what\u2019s going on, amazingly, all kinds of new options for what to <em>DO<\/em> present themselves. Now the results, or what I <em>GET<\/em>, change.<\/p>\n<p>Change what we SEE and what we GET will change, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A simple strategy for effective
