{"id":1900,"date":"2016-04-04T10:39:09","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T14:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.imperialcrs.com\/blog\/?p=1900"},"modified":"2025-07-07T18:18:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T18:18:11","slug":"what-the-public-thinks-about-clinical-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imperialcrs.com\/blog\/business-insights\/what-the-public-thinks-about-clinical-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"What the Public Thinks about Clinical Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Our\u00a0Survey<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the Fall of 2015, we launched a survey to the general public to learn how they gather healthcare information and how they make decisions. \u00a0We also wanted to gauge their knowledge about and interest in clinical trials. \u00a0We intentionally surveyed the general public as to get an \u201cunbiased\u201d response in comparison to those that had already participated in a clinical trial. \u00a0Over the next few weeks I&#8217;ll be sharing the survey results and our insights into their meaning in a series of posts.<\/p>\n<p>All told, we received responses from over 4,500 people. The first question asked was who they were answering the survey for, themselves or someone they care for.\u00a0 This was critical in understanding the thought process of all those that may be trial participants sometime in the future.\u00a0 Seventy percent completed the survey for themselves and thirty percent are caregivers to someone with a specific illness.\u00a0 Most of the respondents seek out information where we&#8217;d expect with healthcare providers\u00a0reported as\u00a079% and the internet reported as\u00a072%. \u00a0People are still looking to healthcare providers for guidance while the internet likely arms them with information they would like to ask or discuss with their physician. \u00a0A recent focus group of\u00a0men diagnosed with prostate cancer seems to bear this out. \u00a0The men said they went online immediately to conduct research \u00a0once they received their diagnosis; and took that information back to their physician for their input and guidance.<\/p>\n<p>It was very encouraging to see that 2\/3rd of survey respondents had indeed heard about clinical trials. \u00a0And as efforts such as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliedclinicaltrialsonline.com\/rethink-research-competition-opens-voting-people-s-choice-award\">clinical trial rebranding<\/a>\u201d continue to take place, we expect trial awareness within the general public to continue increase.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Okay, What Does it Mean?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The majority of individuals look to their healthcare providers for information and treatment options about their disease.\u00a0 Clinical trial awareness among the general population is increasing.\u00a0 The survey provided detail as to how best bridge these two trends.\u00a0 It was identified that physicians can improve their consistency and communication with their patients about clinical trials.\u00a0 And providers in the industry (sponsors, CROs, recruitment, etc.) own the responsibility to provide the healthcare community with the proper educational materials\/tools to foster such conversations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Up next: \u00a0Why People Will Participate in Clinical Trials (in their own words)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our\u00a0Survey In the Fall of 2015, we launched a survey to the general public to learn how they gather healthcare information and how they make decisions. \u00a0We also wanted to gauge their knowledge about and interest in clinical trials. \u00a0We intentionally surveyed the general public&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":26,"featured_media":71597,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[22,35],"tags":[249,83,1730,1709,33,1726,50,1724,1729,1728,345,1727,1725,1723,1731],"class_list":["post-1900","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business-insights","category-patient-recruitment-and-retention","tag-big-data","tag-clinical-research","tag-clinical-research-awareness","tag-clinical-trial-awareness","tag-clinical-trial-branding","tag-clinical-trial-participation-beliefs","tag-clinical-trials","tag-community-attitudes-toward-medical-research","tag-community-outreach-on-clinical-trials","tag-increasing-trial-awareness","tag-patient-engagement","tag-patient-engagement-in-research","tag-public-opinion-on-clinical-studies","tag-public-perception-of-clinical-trials","tag-public-trust-in-clinical-studies"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Clinical Trial Survey Provides Valuable Insight<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"We took a survey to gauge knowledge about and interest in clinical trials.
